Stupid Mariner Fans

Of all the Seattle sports fans, the Mariners fans are the worst.  Ugggg.   There are a lot of savy M's fans out there but all those damn Homer Simpson like Mariner fans just drive me crazy.  And come spring training, its a pretty short drive for me.

Some of the crap that these guys spew just baffles me.  Where do these guys come from?  If they have been fans as long as some them claim then where is all the experience that they would have picked up from all the past mistakes of the franchise?  It's as if they lost all capacity to reason.  They have fallen prey to the Mariners quirky  yet effective marketing machine.

Stupid Mariner Fans

Lets face it, mariners fans have only been fans since 1995.

Wrong.  I used to take the bus to the Kingdome to sit among 4,000 real fans back when our All-Star representatives were guys like Rick Honeycutt and signing a guy like Lenny Randle was news.  We know it's not a birth right to be competitive and appreciate it when it happens.

Atomic, what are you going on about?  What "capacity to reason" are you referring to?  This is a pretty nice outburst, but you don't SAY anything.

Yes, I've been a fan since the Julio Cruz and Bruce Bochte days.  And I will continue to be one, regardless of whether the team is a contender or not.  That doesn't mean I think they're a contending team when they don't have the talent.  There's no "vicitm of the quirky yet effective marketing machine, whatever that is."  I know they're not very good and have a mediocre farm system right now, but I'm not going to turn away because of it.  BTW, I think fans who support their teams in good times and bad are the BEST fans, not the worst.

how about ignorant Mariner fans.  Lets face it, mariners fans have only been fans since 1995.  furthermore thats probably why they always go to the games.  because they think no matter how far back in the division or wild card, WE CAN DO IT!  They jumped on board in the middle of a historic run and figure it is birth right to be competitive.  So give these fans time.  they will grow annoyed, jaded, and savvy.  but now they are just young and innocent.

BUT, the next time i hear cheering be cause a Mariner hitter had just bounced into a fielders choice, Im goona hit someone! just because a player makes it to first, does not mean he hustled!

WesCoastBias,
You summed it up in one sentence: Bavasi is gone and things can't possibly get any worse.
Which helps explain why I am looking forward to the 2009 season. Will the M's make the playoffs? No way in hell. But it should be fun watching Clement, Morrow and Balentien mature. And despite losing Ibanez, I can't imagine they'll be worse than last year.

...than pay good money to watch a bunch of 'stars' strike out for millions.Well, thankfully, Richie Sexson has left the building! But, in hindsight, the M's have a proven reputation for signing guys that are just past their primes, and paying them too much money for too long of a contract, and then scratching their heads when the guy doesn't hit at 36 years old, like he did when he was 30-32 years old. I too, hope that Bavasi being gone will create a new team culture that all these guys can get behind, and find a way to start winning! You don't necessarily have to have an "all-star" roster in MLB in order to be a good team that can win games and be competitive. In fact, sometimes that "all-star" roster can hurt you. (See: NY Yankees last season.) You need talent, heart and teamwork which means all of these guys need to do the little things and do them well because the rest falls into place after that!

I'm with Wes.  I hate stupid fans no matter which team it is, and idiot fair weather fans are the worst.  Most of my fan years I didn't really understand the games so much and I have never been a stats person but I do know the fastest way to sink a franchise is to give away all our farm talent and overpay for hasbeens.  I'd rather see a whole team of rookies get their butts kicked, but learn and grow as a team for the future than pay good money to watch a bunch of 'stars' strike out for millions.

I mostly just despise the people who act like it is ok for the team to be mediocre and I hate the fair-weather fans who only come out when the team is good (i.e. 90% of Seahawks "fans" who were Supes fans in the 90s and rock Seahawks crap everywhere).  The team needs to milk the farm system and make smart free agent acquisitions.  With any luck, the Mariners can start the next decade in the playoffs.  But saying the next decade makes you want to vomit a bit.  I just tell myself Bevasi is gone and things can't possibly get worse.
